“ This is a delightful community restaurant in the increasingly hip area of Kenton in Portland. Visiting from the UK, we were looking for somewhere with authentic character and good food - and we certainly found it here. The menu is short and simple, but with enough variety to inspire. The food is fresh, well prepared and absolutely delicious. That goes for the puddings as well. This restaurant is a hidden gem. The service was excellent, and probably the most friendly we have ever encountered. It was not until afterwards we found that this is a non-profit operation, established partly to provide development opportunities for community members. Frankly they could teach staff at many other restaurants a thing or two about customer service. While we ate, the heavens burst and rain poured down. As the street began to flood, we saw the manager hurry out and unblock drains. Not just outside his restaurant, but also across the street for others. Now that’s what a real sense of community looks like. ”

“ Totally unexpected phenomenal restaurant. It’s in the Kenton neighborhood of Portland. The restaurant does not look such a great restaurant from outside. I was going to bail out of this place and go elsewhere. But my friends pulled me into the restaurant. What a surprise!! Their food is so delicious and well prepared. The best poor boy sandwich better than the ones in Tennessee. Coleslaw was excellent too. I will definitely make a trip to there soon. ”

“ The service and food here is exceptional. Brought parents here to try Southern food and this place delivered on it. The blackened catfish and fried chicken were delicious. Each had the perfect amount of flavor and were so moist. And the fried okra and macaroni sides were also great. Portions are huge so glad my parents and I split a platter. The staff checked in on us a few times and introduced themselves. I have a bad memory for names but I think we met a Lance, Michael and a Taviana??????? I saw they also have vegetarian entrees like jackfruit po boys that I want to try next time. Will definitely be back! ”
“ The best Soul Food in Portland! The sweet tea brought back memories of neighbors pouring me a glass on hot summer evenings. The collard greens will make even the pickiest kid eat their vegetables. The BBQ is perfection. I can't eat BBQ at most places because they just don't get it right! The black-eyed peas and rice reminded me of sitting at Big Mama's kitchen counter after school and chatting about everything while she made dinner for her family. The sweet potato pie is quite literally the best I've ever had. I've never met a sweet potato pie that I didn't like, but this stuff is what dreams are made of! The service was excellent. There aren't many places anymore where they all introduce themselves and talk about recipes passed down by their great-grandmother, or having a barbecue when their favorite uncle brought over the latest meat he had come across, and their mom instinctively knew the best ways to season it. We will be back again and again and dreaming about it until the next time! ”
“ Super delicious, legit soul food!! I can't wait to come back for a po-boy. The only downside was that the restaurant didn't have hot beverages (tea, coffee) and it was a bit chilly inside. The lemonade was tasty though! ”

Always love supporting a local business and you don't have to ask me twice to go for some soul food! 3 of us ordered the fried catfish (basket and po'boy), they were all delicious. One chicken and waffles - waffles weren't a hit but the chicken was juicy and flavorful, generously breaded with just enough salt and spice. We were the only table on a Monday late lunch. Service was great. Food took a while but sometimes delicious food does, and you can't rush it! It was totally worth the wait. We also had cornbread, hush puppies, potato salad, and black eyed peas with rice. Everything was just fantastic. And the sweet tea transported me back to the South. Loved this place, HIGHLY recommend. And the folks there are super nice too. ”
